About 2024 MAC Symposium

The Annual MAC Aging Research Symposium is the primary conference featuring the latest aging research from across the Midwest. The MAC symposium is also a great networking and career development opportunity for trainees and early-career scientists. The format of the conference will include oral sessions and poster sessions. Each oral session will include invited speakers and speakers selected from abstracts.

The MAC symposium is heavily focused on trainees. A number of travel and poster awards will be given to outstanding students and postdocs who will be presented at the symposium.

Abstract Submission

Abstract submissions are due no later than March 15, 2024.  If you do not have your abstract ready at time of registration, you can leave it blank to complete registration and log back in later to attach the file.  Any abstracts not summited by March 15, will not be eligible for oral presentations, awards, or published in conference documents.

Abstract Submission Instructions:

– Please prepare your abstract in Microsoft Word and follow the abstract template file here.

Please name your abstract file following the format,“First name_Last name.docx”

– Font: Arial or Times New Roman, size 12

– Abstracts may not be longer than 3000 characters with spaces.

– The maximum size of your abstract file is 5 MB.

– In the abstract submission form, please provide your email and indicate if you’d like your abstract to be considered as an oral presentation

– Any abstracts that were not selected for oral presentations will be listed for poster presentations.

– To participate in the poster award competition, you must bring a poster and present it at the poster sessions; even your abstract is selected for a short talk.

Poster details:

Posters must not exceed 36″ X 48″.

Review Criteria for Best Poster Award:

1. Both scientific merit and clarity of presentation will be evaluated.

2. Presenting author on the abstract will receive the award

3. The posters from Undergraduate, Graduate students and Postdoctoral scholars may be evaluated separately.

Travel Awards

Limited travel awards will be given to outstanding students and postdocs based on the scientific merits of their Curriculum Vitae, Abstracts, and/or Poster Presentations.  CV must be submitted no later than March 1, 2024, to be eligible for travel awards. If you do not have your CV ready at time of registration, you can leave it blank to complete registration and log back in later to attach the file.

Selection Criteria for MAC Travel Award:

1. Eligibility: Graduate students or postdocs who submit an abstract may apply for MAC Travel Awards.

2. Significance of research (based on the abstracts): Relevance to aging research and the potential impact on the field

3. Productivity (based on CV): Publication record, previous awards, conference presentations

4. Other considerations: Demonstrated service and leadership

5. The applications from graduate students and postdocs may be reviewed separately
